Trauma
Being traumatized is being severely wounded. If trauma is physical, the worst wounds are those where an almost healed spot gets hurt again. We are pierced by an arrow, and we have almost recovered, and just after the worst pain is over the same spot gets pierced again. This new wound will be much worse, more hurtful, more difficult to heal than the first one.
In psychic trauma the first arrow is real, but the next arrows are self inflicted. We keep opening our psychic wounds by dwelling on them with our attention. Psychic healing takes place when someone convinces us that we can let go, that it is all right to focus our attention elsewhere, that we don’t need to keep feeding our hurt. The beautiful thing is that you can do that for me and I can do that for you.
